These tables and narrative summaries analyze terrorist incidents that occurred in the United States during 1981 and that were claimed by specific terrorist groups and give an overview of FBI counterterrorist efforts.
Abstract
The 42 incidents injured or killed 5 people. They included 17 bombings, 8 attempted bombings, 7 firebombings, and 10 other incidents, including shootings, assaults, takeovers, arson, and armed robberies. Groups claiming responsibility for the incidents included Armenian, Croation, Cuban, Iranian, Jewish, Libyan, Puerto Rican, and other groups. The FBI's counterterrorism efforts resulted in arrests, convictions, deportations, and seizures of arms and ammunition. Summaries of trends in domestic terrorism between 1977 and 1981 and of suspected terrorist incidents are included.
