In all cases the women described symptoms of low self-esteem and guilt, related to their role in the incest. Other perceived long-term harmful effects include depression, difficulties with trusting others, and sexual dysfunction. These effects vary according to the amount of coercion used by the brothers, duration of the incest, and parental response to the incest. Dysfunction in the women's families-of-origin that contribute to their perceptions of the incest is also described. 12 references. (Author abstract modified)
