Five public policy measures are considered: minimum drinking age law, taxation of alcoholic beverages, drinking and driving laws, laws and regulations governing the physical availability of alcoholic beverages, and server intervention programs. The conclusion is that certain public policy measures reduce alcohol-related crashes for example high taxes on alcoholic beverages, certain laws and regulations governing the physical availability of alcohol, and the minimum drinking age. Without adopting these measures, the strengthening of the drinking and driving laws will have less than optimum effects. 88 references. (Author abstract modified)
