Following a session on the meaning of victimization and victim's rights, a session reviews the role of law enforcement in victim assistance. This includes discussions on why law enforcement and prosecutors should be involved in victim assistance and a delineation of their responsibilities and suggested actions. A session on victim assistance legislation addresses the Justice Assistance Act, the Victims of Crime Act, the Victim/Witness Protection Act, and New Mexico victim assistance laws. Other sessions provide service guidelines for special victims, suggested victim assistance activities, victim assistance program models, and the identification of resources for victim assistance.
