Transition programming is a vital part of comprehensive educational programs for adjudicated youth in correctional institutions. Little information is available on transition programs operated by State youth correction agencies for juvenile offenders, both handicapped and nonhandicapped. This article provides a discussion of the findings from a nationwide survey of transition programs for this population that was conducted in midsummer of 1987. In addition to providing the number of responding State correctional agencies that operate transition programs, a discussion of some characteristics of these programs will be given. 2 tables, 11 references.
