Abstract
The Service's mission is to contribute to the protection of society by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control. Among its core values are respect for the dignity of individuals, the rights of all members of society, and the potential for human growth and development; recognition of the potential of the offender to live as a law-abiding citizen; and a belief that a strength and major resource for achieving its objectives is its staff. Other values are a belief in the essential role of sharing knowledge, values, and experience and the view that the service must be managed with openness, integrity, and accountability.
