One hundred and forty-four of the 159 agencies providing these services responded to the surveys, which produced data on services during calendar year 1985. The data covered the populations receiving the services, the services provided directly and through referrals, and funding. Data from 15 Florence Crittenton agencies were analyzed both separately and with the other agencies. Results showed that the females being served in 1985 were younger than those served at the time of the previous survey in 1969. Results suggested the need for placing the highest priority on developing and funding programs encouraging adolescents to prevent or delay pregnancies. The finding that few males are being served indicated the need for a variety of interventions. Results also indicated the importance of collaboration and the major role of Federal programs in caring for female adolescents and their babies. Findings also suggested that child welfare agencies are well positioned to provide continued leadership in the process of organizing collaborative efforts and interagency efforts needed to establish a coordinated service system.
