This illustrated booklet uses text and the McGruff character to explain basic facts about sexual assault and lists preventive measures.
Abstract
The text emphasizes that sexual assault is a violent crime and includes all forms of sexual contact carried out against the will and without the consent of the victim. The victims include not only the man, woman, or child who was assaulted, but also the family members and friends of a person who has been raped or otherwise sexually assaulted. Specific preventive measures can reduce the chance of a sexual assault at home, on elevators, in the car, and when walking. Defenses in an attack include submission, passive resistance, and active resistance; the circumstances should determine the choice of a defense. List of measures to take if sexually assaulted and discussion of victim services and information to report are included.
