This work has been conducted largely by the European Committee on Crime Problems. Specific products have included Resolution (77)27 on victim compensation, the European Convention on the Compensation of Victims of Violent Crime, Recommendation Number R(85)11 on the position of the victim in criminal law and procedure, and Recommendation Number R(87)21 on victim assistance and the prevention of victimization. The Council of Europe has also examined specific types of victimization, including child abuse, domestic violence, consumer protection, and the child sexual exploitation, juvenile prostitution, child pornography, and trafficking in children and young adults. The documents of the Council of Europe and the United Nations show similar philosophies regarding victims' needs. However, the Council of Europe has developed its recommendations in more detail than is found in the United Nations Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power. Therefore, the United Nations should develop a new and more detailed statement. Footnotes.
