Abstract
Section One is an overview of child and adolescent suicide, family patterns seen in suicidal children and adolescents, and how children and adolescents view death. Also, depression and the manifestation of depression in the general context of suicide are discussed. Section Two presents information that will aid school personnel in recognizing situational, behavioral, and feeling signals of depression and suicidal behavior. Myths and misinformation about suicide are discussed, and sources of student stress in school and in the classroom are presented. Section Three provides suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention guidelines. Intervention techniques are also suggested to aid those professionals who come into contact and need to work with low-risk suicidal children. References, index.
