The Reformatory Movement is a faction of Fatah, the largest faction of the PLO. According to Aweidah, the Reformatory Movement is a democratic movement within the PLO seeking to depose the present PLO leadership centered in Arafat. Aweidah views Arafat as a dictator who promotes himself without regard for the opinions and rights of the Palestinian people. The Reformatory Movement, states Aweidah, favors the ceasing of all hostilities against Israel as a prelude to peace talks. He favors the withdrawal of Israel from occupied territories in Jordan and a new PLO focus on the upgrading of the Palestinians' living standards. Aweidah opposes the concept of the "Greater Israel," which involves increasing settlement of Jews on Arab lands outside the original borders of Israel. Aweidah believes Israel looks favorably on the Reformatory Movement and would enter peace negotiations with its representatives in the event Arafat is deposed. 3 notes.
