We examine the effects of popularity among peers, appearance, academic standing, financial and occupational position, and influence within the family. We find that measures of adolescent differentiation, inequality, and stratification are positively and negatively associated with delinquency, depending on the measure employed. Conventional measures of stratification, such as school performance, are negatively associated with delinquency, while popularity among peers and financial position tend to be positively associated with delinquency. 7 tables and 19 references.
