After a review of the literature on the causes of juvenile homicide, two papers present results from a Michigan study of 72 juveniles charged with homicide. The study focuses on categories of clinical presentations of homicidal adolescents and a typology of juvenile homicide offenders. A chapter on the adolescent witness to homicide notes the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder in such witnesses and offers treatment suggestions. Five papers address forensic and dispositional issues. The papers offer guidance for clinicians as they perform forensic functions related to legal case processing. This includes guidance on the forensic examination of juveniles, including assessment of competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility. Other papers discuss variations and factors in the disposition of juveniles charged with homicide. The book concludes with a discussion of the treatment of the homicidal adolescent.
