TFC is the least restrictive of residential services for juveniles. It approximates treatment in a family atmosphere that allows juveniles to attend public schools and remain involved in community services. The first paper provides a brief history of TFC, followed by a paper that describes the characteristics of those served in the three model programs: PRYDE, People Places, and Professional Parenting. These programs are offered in a variety of environments, ranging from inner-city Pittsburgh to rural areas in Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Topics covered by the papers include the recruitment and selection of treatment parents, the referral and placement of children in treatment homes, the training and support of treatment parents, and the organizing and staffing of TFC programs. Other topics addressed are the provision of TFC services, serving families of children in TFC, the evaluation of TFC, and how to realize the potential of TFC. Chapter tables and references.
