Although disciplinary boundaries may be professionally satisfying, they limit our ability to understand the social, political, and historical contexts within which all behaviors occur. Similarly, the perspectives of individual disciplines can inhibit the ability to understand the complex nature of the problem. However, the problems of troubled and troubling youth transcend the conceptual, disciplinary, and service-delivery boundaries established by researchers and professionals.
