After presenting the 1987 Annual Report for the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute (UNAFEI), material is presented on UNAFEI's international course on crime prevention and the treatment of offenders and drug problems and on the international training course on crime related to insurance; materials produced during other UNAFEI activities are also provided.
Abstract
The annual report describes UNAFEI's main activities and events for 1987 and the work program for 1988. Material from the 76th International Seminar on the "Evaluation of UNAFEI's International Course on Prevention of Crime and Treatment of Offenders, and Drug Problems in Asia" includes five experts' papers. They cover the first 25 years of UNAFEI and evaluation of the Singapore-Japan Joint Seminar on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders as well as an evaluation of UNAFEI's role and activities from the experience of the China-UNAFEI Joint Judicial Seminar. Material from the International Training Course on Crime Related to Insurance examines the nature of the insurance industry, insurance crime, and the prevention of such crime in various countries and internationally. The countries examined include England, Malaysia, Korea, and Thailand. Reports from workshops cover the investigative and legal aspects of insurance crime, cooperation between police and insurance companies in addressing such crime, international assistance in countering insurance crime, and the treatment of offenders in insurance crimes.
