This paper presents guidelines and policy for the use of polygraphs in support of the investigative activities of the polygraph department.
Abstract
The author feels that such guidelines are needed to increase professionalism and prevent criticisms. The paper presents personnel qualifications of polygraph examiners, discusses the types of equipment which should be used, and the environment in which tests and interviews should be conducted. The listed procedures include appointments, pre-examination activity, pre-test activity, and test activity. The handling of records and reports is also covered. 14 footnotes.
