Thus, the data underscore the solid basis of the typology developed by McClintock in 1963 to show the very different circumstances that surround incidents. Specifically, a category of violence related to work places is needed; this category has different parameters from violence in domestic and barroom settings. These changes permit a typology of environmental settings that can aid the effort to develop more effective strategies for avoiding or preventing violence and for coping with it when it arises.
