A survey questionnaire was designed in late 1987 to assess citizen satisfaction with services provided by the New York State Police (NYSP).
Abstract
Fieldwork was conducted in 1989, and 200 surveys were mailed to individuals who had recently received services from the NYSP. Of the 200 questionnaires, 74 were returned, for a response rate of 37 percent. The survey sample was selected from a computerized document control system which contained the names of all complainants/victims associated with cases for which troopers or investigators submitted field reports. Criminal cases involving sex crimes, homicide, and child abuse were excluded from the survey. Overall, results reflected a positive assessment of NYSP services; 95 percent indicated the degree of courtesy displayed by the NYSP was good or excellent, and 86 percent gave an overall service rating of good or excellent. Respondents were largely very satisfied with the person who answered the phone, with the amount of time it took for the NYSP to arrive, and with the actions taken by the NYSP. 6 graphs.
