This paper describes the use of photography minilabs in law enforcement agencies. A minilab can provide a police laboratory department with rapid, quality processing and printing of 35mm color negative films in a compact, easy to operate, efficient facility.
Abstract
The New York City Police Department has found witnesses making more positive identification of suspects from the color photographs, whereas the Ontario (CA) Police Department uses it for crime scene documentation. Other police departments find the advantages of a Hope 200 minilab include in-house confidentiality, large volume processing (about 40-80 rolls per day), use of Fuji 23 VE video enlarger, and 99 percent first quality prints production. However, a cleaning inconvenience was found with the RA waterless chemistry. To ensure color balance and quality, the minilab should be operated daily. Law enforcement labs have found that minilabs are ideal equipment for the volume production of smaller machine prints and enlargements. Photographs.
