A quarterly newsletter was initiated and circulated to more than 17,000 leaders in the private and public sectors. The newsletter is a key channel of communication within the Corporate Initiatives' effort to provide forums for employers to share information, experiences, and expertise. Regional conferences focus on legislation and on legal implications and prevention strategies for workplace drug abuse programs. A survey of corporate drug abuse programs indicates that such programs prepare managers to handle drug problem situations, reduce absenteeism, reduce on-the-job accidents, increase productivity, and boost employee morale. Another survey shows that 28 percent of the nation's largest companies use drug testing as one means of curbing drug abuse in the workplace.
