This computer-based training (CBT) resource handbook used by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement reports on a feasibility study that examined the benefits of computer-aided police training and presents material derived from the implementation phase of computer-aided instruction.
Abstract
The feasibility study found that the use of computers to help deliver and manage criminal justice training improved training effectiveness and reduced training costs. This manual presents five products created in the implementation phase of computer-based training. A manual is provided for the electronic dial-up computer-based training (CBT) information network. Users can obtain curriculum documents, courseware evaluations, and research results; search the CBT library's "card catalog;" check the electronic bulletin board for CBT news; send electronic mail; and hold teleconferences. A courseware rating guide evaluates CBT courseware instructional design, content, screen presentation, operation, and recordkeeping. The courseware field test guide allows trainers to use a "sequential-analysis" method to determine a courseware product's usefulness. An annotated bibliography describes current uses of CBT for criminal justice training in each State. A model contract for the development of computer courseware is also provided.
