A retrospective review of 140 homicide cases occurring in the West Midlands (England) between 1978 and 1988 was conducted in order to establish patterns of regional homicide and to compare the findings to previous research.
Abstract
An analysis of the pattern of injuries sustained in each of four major categories of homicides -- stabbing, asphyxia, blunt head injury, and shooting -- is outlined as well as offender and victim profiles. There is a particular emphasis on the post-mortem changes observed in cases of asphyxial death. Because of the similarity in the incidences of the causes of death between this study and a previous study, the author speculates that this small sample may well represent the whole of England. 1 table and 6 references (Author abstract modified)
