Article I specifies the legislative powers of the U.S. Congress, distinguished between the House of Representatives and the Senate as well as the terms and qualifications of members of Congress and other matters pertaining to the operations of Congress. Article II vests executive power in the presidency and specifies the procedure for electing the president, term of office, qualifications, and powers. Article III vests the judicial power of the United States in one Supreme Court and in subordinate courts that the Congress may ordain and establish; the terms of the justices and the jurisdictions of Federal courts are indicated. Article IV designates the legal rights of each State in relation to other States and to the Federal Government, and Article V mandates the procedure for amending the U.S. Constitution. Article VI mandates the Constitution and the laws and treaties stemming therefrom as the "Supreme Law of the Land," requiring compliance by all Federal and State officials. Article VII specifies the procedure for ratifying the Constitution. The 26 amendments to the Constitution are presented.
