Statistical data are presented on crime trends in Illinois for violent and property crimes, offense rates and clearances, and adult and juvenile arrests.
Abstract
Data are derived from the Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. Violent crimes include murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Property crimes include burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, arson, and vandalism. From 1987 to 1989, the total number of violent crimes increased from 93,938 to 100,562, and the total number of property crimes rose from 539,523 to 561,706. Between 1988 and 1989, adult arrests increased from 373,116 to 384,653, while juvenile arrests decreased from 53,407 to 52,815. Crime data are also presented by metropolitan statistical area. Information on the number of police officers assaulted or killed and on law enforcement agencies is provided. An appendix contains UCR offense codes for 1989, a list of multicounty agencies, and murder chart definitions.
