Abstract
Written from the perspective that drug addiction is first and foremost a neurochemical disorder induced by the introduction of toxic substances into the body, this book explores the addiction potential of various classes of abused drugs. Drug classes that are covered include central stimulants, opioids, alcohol, barbiturates and other sedative-hypnotics, nicotine, benzodiazepines and non-benzodiazepine anxiolytics, inhalants and anesthetics, and PCP and hallucinogens.
