This paper examines the recent trends in crime in Slovenia, Yugoslavia and discusses the incidence and patterns of crime in 1989.
Abstract
After several years of decline, the incidence of crime has increased for the last two years. The bulk of the increase has been in crimes against public and private property, while economic and political offenses have declined. The number of juvenile delinquents and children who have committed criminal offenses has increased. A total of 39,937 offenses were reported in 1989 and the police investigated 22,266. Motor vehicles were the type of property most at risk, with car thefts in foreign countries and the sale of these cars in Slovenia proving to be particularly profitable. Legislative changes that eliminated certain acts as criminal offenses may explain the decline in economic criminal offenses. The more severe economic and social conditions in the area may explain the slight increase in corruption. Tables (Author abstract modified)
