Study information came from police reports and reports of mental health professionals as well as seven men who were considered potential victims because of their extensive experience with boy prostitutes. The murders involved 21 different perpetrators. The victim and offender usually met each other at Central Station or in a bar. Most of the murders took place during the night at the victim's home. Sex had a major role in almost all cases, and robbery was involved in two-thirds of the cases. The victims were also much older than the offenders. Findings indicated that media reports of these crimes are inaccurate and that these crimes result from an accumulation of negative experiences on the part of both the offender and the victim, resulting in the confrontation of two people who dislike each other.
