This guide presents materials for October crime prevention month for 1991 including tools, program ideas, resource lists, and reproducible brochures and articles.
Abstract
Practical tools provided are publicity tips, an update on the McGruff public service advertising campaign, a sample proclamation, and statistics to include in presentations and proposals. The guide also offers ideas for short-range and long-range projects that will make crime and drug prevention an integral part of community life throughout the year. The strategies focus on community partnerships to help prevent drug abuse, the establishment and revitalization of Neighborhood Watch groups, the building of parent-school-student-community bonds to make the community safer for children and youth, and a program to help the elderly protect themselves against crime. Lists of selected references -- publications, organizations, and programs -- feature auto theft prevention, crime prevention for disabled populations, gang prevention, and rural crime prevention. Another section of the guide describes services of the National Crime Prevention Council including its publications, McGruff licensed products, training workshops, and its information and referral service. The guide offers a new, expanded selection from among the National Crime Prevention Council's reproducible crime prevention brochures and articles including a Halloween poster, new drug abuse prevention brochures, and materials in Spanish.
