This book draws on all domestic violence literature to date and finds validity in much of it yet challenges several fundamental premises in the literature. The first four chapters explain domestic violence, examine why gay men's domestic violence occurs more than once and what reinforces it, and outline the profiles of batterers and victims. Subsequent chapters focus on the following: the difficulties victims experience in getting out of relationships with violent men, ways to help a friend or relative who wants to leave or who recently has left a relationship with a violent man, the psychology of domestic violence, and the pressing need for government action, education, community support, and publicity about gay men's domestic violence. The book provides a political and community blueprint for change and concludes with a challenge to the academic, corporate, civic, and gay communities to become involved in the process of educating the public, conducting research, and offering broader services. 1 appendix and 44 references
