Drug Abuse: A Directory of Community Services in California, 12th Edition

NCJ Number

Date Published

Annotation
Information for this directory of drug abuse community services in California was obtained from responses to the National Drug and Alcoholism Treatment Unit Survey conducted by California's Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs in 1989-1990.
Abstract
The directory was compiled with the goal of including all public and private agencies providing drug abuse treatment and related services. Some of the agencies specialize in drug abuse treatment, while others provide a broad range of services including general mental health or health care, alcoholism rehabilitation, and other community services. The following specific service types are listed in the directory: outpatient treatment, residential treatment, hospital inpatient treatment, drug-free treatment, detoxification, methadone maintenance, other medical/psychiatric services, individual counseling, group/family counseling, vocational rehabilitation/employment, remedial/continuing education, services accessible to the disabled, referral services for the disabled, special programs for women and adolescents, child care availability, telephone crisis intervention, referral/screening/intake, public information, and employee assistance. Agencies are listed alphabetically within each California county. A glossary defines services listed in the directory, and a city-county index helps the reader find programs when the city but not the county is known.
