The Saudi Arabian Department of Customs has progressed to become one of the largest, most organized and effective administration within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Abstract
The department consists of some 34 Customs Administrations located throughout the Kingdom and is staffed by approximately 4,500 employees assigned within the numerous airport, seaport, and land border customs operations. Since its inception in June 1978, the Customs Administration and training development project has enjoyed significant success. The ongoing development goals of this program include improving the detection of smuggled contraband by the implementation of a Canine Enforcement Program, developing a modern training center facility to provide ongoing training support, and training customs officers to manage and operate all aspects of the program. Also, the goals of a computerization project include providing expert computer systems analysis and career-oriented training for customs officers. A Customs Operations Training program provided intensified English language development and training related to search and seizure technique, firearms instruction, and narcotics intelligence.
