The Key Indicators/Strategic Support System is a personal computer-based, menu-driven software program developed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Office of Research and Evaluation, to assist in framing appropriate quality control standards and to monitor conformance to agency policy.
Abstract
For the BOP, quality control was defined as setting quality standards, developing and implementing plans for attaining those standards, controlling the production process, and determining conformance to standards. Key Indicators is a system that provides manager with comparative monitoring of system performance. The system contains information on the bureau nationally as well as every BOP institution, region, and security level. The data covers rated capacity, admissions and discharges, average daily population, inmate demographics, security designation, custody classification, urine surveillance, assaults, escapes, disciplinary hearings, inmate grievances, education program enrollment and completion, staff demographics and attitudes, and financial management. The system encourages efficient and effective use of staff resources by providing quick access to a wide range of information and promotes proactive data management.
