These 28 papers present empirical findings from several countries regarding victimization surveys, victim compensation, restitution, victims' rights, victim services, and related issues.
Abstract
Individual papers present results of victim surveys in the United States and Germany, including the former German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany; studies of victim attitudes in Hungary; and a study of victimization and juvenile delinquency among law students in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Other papers focus on the use of restitution as a criminal sanction and policies and practices regarding victim compensation in Brazil, Canada, France, Netherlands, and United States. Further articles consider the relationship between victims and the criminal justice system, victim services, victim participation in sentencing, the role of victim impact statements, and police and criminal justice responses to domestic assault and rape.
