The first set of charts shows information on overall criminal cases while the second and third sections focus on cases before the higher and lower criminal courts respectively. Another section is devoted to appeal cases. Each of these sections provides overall figures for West Germany as well as separate columns for each of the 11 West German Laender (States) and for each court district. Each section also informs about new cases, pending cases, and closed cases; the types of procedure involved (e.g., juvenile procedure, accelerated procedure); and the types of sentences imposed. The final section reports on cases before the West German Supreme Court including statistics, verdicts reached, and the length of the trial. Quotations from relevant sections of the West German Code of Criminal Procedure are included in a separate section.
