This third National Census of Community Based Corrections in Australia, conducted on June 30, 1989 in all States and Territories, covers all adult persons serving noncustodial court orders on the census date.
Abstract
All persons serving any of the following community-based orders are included: probation/supervised recognizance, attendance centre order, community service/work order, fine option order, and presentence supervision orders. Also included are offenders serving post-prison orders: parole/license, aftercare probation/partially suspended sentence, prerelease order, home detention, and community-based work release. Information was obtained from existing records in each jurisdiction. Information not on record was, where feasible, collected specifically for the census through individual interviews. Information collected was of three basic types: general information on the demographic and social characteristics of all adult persons who are serving community-based orders, information on the nature of the offenses for which the person is serving orders, and the type and severity of the orders currently being served. 41 tables, 3 figures, and appended data collection form
