The discussion notes that few empirical studies exist regarding this subject and that until recently the literature generally did not recognize females as perpetrators. Nevertheless, current data consistently indicates that female sex offenders are increasing in the clinical population, that homosexual molestation appears to be more common among female molesters than among males, that assaults involving partners are typical of female molestation, and that female and male perpetrators have both similarities and differences. Offender treatment should be supportive, behavioral-environmental, educational, and medical. Child victims should be treated using group support, role plays, ventilation, and sharing with parent involvement advisable whenever possible.
