A master plan for the expansion of the New Mexico Corrections Industries (NMCI) program is presented in the areas of management, finance, production, and marketing and sales.
Abstract
In the management area, the Corrections Commission together with the Department of Corrections Secretary and the Management Team of the Corrections Industries Division is advised to determine the particular methods of operations, policies, and recommendation and to establish rules of the Commission. In order to update the financial area, the Commission should authorize the Information Systems Council to purchase the needed accounting system that will enable the Commission and NMCI to develop a good tracking system of transactions. In addition, the commission should pursue legislation to remove the requirement for 60 percent of inmate labor to be involved in the New Mexico Corrections Industries products. Within the marketing/sales division, the four sales positions should be converted to permanent State employees who support the Corrections Industries goal of producing quality products and services for governmental agencies with timely and responsible delivery.
