Four strategies were discussed in depth at the summit: the Statewide Multiagency/Multijurisdictional strategy, the Statewide "Fast Track" Criminal Justice Strategy, the Statewide Coordination and Logistical Support Strategy, and one urban program, the Urban "Weed and Seed" and Community Policing Strategy. The Summit also gave the citizens of Maryland an opportunity to voice their opinions on crime control during the People's Forum, in which they were invited to present their recommendations for further developing State strategies. This report overviews the crime problem in Maryland and emphasizes the need to increase cooperation between Federal, State, and local law enforcement and to promote the sharing of manpower, resources, and criminal intelligence information. The Summit participants examined the successful use of community policing in three Maryland jurisdictions.
