Abstract
Administrative data distinguished by region is provided for correctional institutions, probation and parole offices, and community facilities in the State. Recommendations related to policy and facility needs and personnel requirements are listed. The activities section focuses on recruitment, training and development, construction, and the use of office automation. Technological innovations are demonstrated by the cashless canteen project which eliminated the need for inmates to have cash. The system provided a more efficient method of keeping track of inventory and reordering stock as well as eliminating opportunities for drug deals and bribes. Health services have been enhanced through a risk management program, substance abuse program, and AIDS education program for both inmates and staff. To provide safe and secure prison environments, an external security auditing program with visiting Chiefs of Security has been implemented. The report highlights Prison Rehabilitative Industries & Diversified Enterprises, Inc. (PRIDE), a non-profit private corporation which trains and employs inmates. Honored employees are noted.
