This Annual Statistical Supplement Report of the Missouri Division of Youth Services for fiscal year 1990 (July 1, 1989, through June 30, 1990) provides statistics on the number and characteristics of the youth served.
Abstract
Summary statewide data indicate that nearly 9 out of 10 youth committed were boys, and approximately 2 out of 3 youth committed were white; approximately 1 out of 4 youth were committed for crimes against a person, and the average youth committed was at nearly the 9th grade level in school; one-half of those committed had a drug history; approximately 1 out of 10 youth were recommitted or revoked, and the average age of committed youth was 15.2 years; 3 out of 4 prior referrals were for property offenses; and 8 out of 10 prior adjudications were for property offenses. The report shows the number of commitments and recommitments for fiscal years 1986 through 1990. Data also address commitments and recommitments by sex, commitments to the Division of Youth Services for fiscal year 1990, commitments by region, and fiscal year 1990 commitments for metro vs. rural areas. Number of commitments are shown by race, sex, type of offense, and by grades completed at time of commitment. Data also cover the aftercare population movement.
