A work conference on police training was held in March 1991 in Zutphen, Netherlands, under the auspices of Trevi's Working Group 2.
Abstract
The conference concentrated in particular on working out Article 7 of the Trevi action program, with a view to defining concrete steps to be taken in the area of police training and the further education of police officers in member states against a backdrop of European unification. The conference found that a great deal has already occurred in the field of police training: increased attention to international aspects of police work in national training schemes; creation of training courses for international police officer students; bilateral cooperative links; and language training. Conference discussions focused on police officer exchanges and placements, educational issues, and information and research. Participants determined that police officers should have a good command of languages and a successful network of contacts to facilitate cooperation. They also concluded that information and documentation on police matters are needed throughout Europe and explored the content of police training programs.
