Abstract
The emphasis of this volume is on scholarly, analytical secondary sources; selected government reports have also been included. The items contained in the bibliography, which is arranged alphabetically by author, were obtained through searches of online databases and catalogues including FELIX (University of Toronto), CINCH, and NCJRS, as well as periodical abstracts and indexes, subject bibliographies, footnotes, and bibliographic citations in books and journals concerned with the subject of privatization. While any general discussion of corrections privatization should cover the contracting out of prison services, probation and parole services, community service order supervision, and other counseling or treatment programs, the greatest controversy centers on the use of profit-seeking corporations to operate prisons or jails in lieu of the State; this is the focus of the bibliography.
