This statistical analysis profiles crime trends based upon the voluntary submission of data from participating law enforcement agencies within the State. A 5-year (1986-90) comparison of index offenses in New Hampshire is followed by data on crime trends for 1990 compared to 1989. A 1990 "crime clock" indicates how often various crimes are committed in New Hampshire. Statistics are provided for the offenses of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, arson, and domestic assault. Crime and crime rates are presented by county; and arrest data cover arrest totals, juvenile arrests, and adult arrests. The percentage of serious crimes reported for 1990 rose slightly by 2.4 percent over 1989. This was due in part to the increases in larceny, up 4.1 percent; rape, which rose 8.6 percent; and robbery, up 12.9 percent. Three other major crimes -- murder, arson, and aggravated assault -- went down by 41.6 percent, 24.7 percent, and 16.7 percent, respectively. Overall, 1990 saw a minimal reduction of 1.2 percent in both Part I and Part II arrests. Drug arrests fell by 23.6 percent over 1989, and drunk-driving apprehensions decreased 10.4 percent.
