This comprehensive bibliographical survey focuses on the feminist contribution to criminal justice from the 1970's to the present.
Abstract
The first section is devoted to publications on the criminality of women with special focus on the feminist criticism of traditional criminological theory and the impact of the Women's Movement on female crime. The second section introduces publications about women as targets of the criminal justice system with particular emphasis on sexual bias in criminal law and in the application of criminal law. The survey concludes that the feminist contribution has shaken the foundations of traditional criminal justice. While some of the research on female criminality simply shifts the emphasis from individual offenders to gender, class, and race relations, other feminists question the very concept of criminality. Despite its focus on women offenders, feminist research wants to be seen in the larger context of the oppression of all women in society. The article includes 8 pages of international references in alphabetical order.
