Followup data on 135 Delaware parolees interviewed at release from prison and reinterviewed about 6 months later were used to examine the ACT group and a comparison group in terms of recidivism and relapse to drug use. Past drug history positively predicted drug use at followup but not directly recidivism. Days in treatment between baseline and followup was only significantly related to weekly drug use but was in the direction of more treatment leading to reduced likelihood of regular drug use. The ACT intervention itself had no effect on reports of drug use; in fact, the signs were positive. There may be some indication that the ACT intervention had an effect on reducing HIV risk behaviors. It was significantly related to reduced report of injecting drug use, and, though not significant, the sign for sex-risk behaviors and recidivism was negative. 42 references
