This report presents 1990 statistics on 42 large (1,000 plus inmates) city and county jails throughout the United States, with data provided on 2 jails with less than a 1,000-inmate population.
Abstract
For each jail, the average daily inmate population is reported for January through June of 1990 and 1989. Also reported are the average bookings per month for June 1990 and the average daily inmate population for June 1990. Other data reported for each jail are the rated capacity, the percent filled, the year starting salary for authorized sworn and nonsworn officers, inmate to security staff ratio, detention budget, cost per inmate per day, medical costs per inmate per day, total costs per meal, and the number of inmates sentenced and unsentenced for felonies and misdemeanors.
