The first section surveys the number of West German probationers from 1963 to 1987. The second section determines the number of probation officers and probationers in West Germany and each of the 11 West German Laender (states) for 1987. The statistics includes offenders who received probation in lieu of a prison term and those who completed part of a prison term. The third part focuses on probation periods which ended in 1987. The figures are categorized according to the offenses for which probation was imposed, the reasons of termination (e.g., the probationer's completing the term or committing a new offense), as well as the length of the probation period. Another section focuses on demographic characteristics (age, marital status, nationality, and prior convictions) of the probationers. Each section maintains separate tables for juvenile probationers.
