The data cover the 67 county jail systems operating 108 facilities throughout the period and reveal that inmate populations in county jails have continued to increase into 1992. The average daily population increased from 33,628 in 1990 to 35,330 at the end of 1992. The authorized rated capacity increased by 5,703 beds or 17.1 percent during the same period, from 33,413 beds to 39,116 beds.
