During 1992, 139 individuals and 26 facilities participating in the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) Summer Youth Employment Program of New York State's Department of Correctional Services.
Abstract
Of the 139 participants, 107 (77 percent) satisfactorily completed the program. The 26 facilities that participated in the program included three maximum-security, 14 medium-security, and nine minimum-security institutions. Nearly all program participants were in clerical training positions, and most were females 16 years of age or younger. The overwhelming orientation of participant comments was positive. Responding facilities were generally pleased with participants and noted the program's value in providing extra help during a staff summer vacation period. Positive comments frequently highlighted the willingness of youth to learn and the work of local JTPA administering agencies in operating the program. Data on facility responses to the JTPA questionnaire and verbatim comments from selected facilities are appended. 5 tables and 2 figures
